The Dept. of Family and Community Medicine (FCM) is the foundation of training generalist medicine and community health care at SIU School of Medicine. Through innovation in curricular development and clinical practice, the department is committed to training family physicians of the highest quality who become regional leaders in health development, provide cutting edge health care services to the people of southern and central Illinois, and advancing the principles of family medicine and population health through the scholarship of discovery, education, integration and application.
FCM is a group of people, spread across the southwestern half of the State of Illinois, united by a common vision and passion for the health of the people we serve. Faculty members and community teaching physicians in our department have common goals of providing excellent medical care and improving the health status of the people of Illinois through educational and research programs. The FCM residency program trains physicians in Springfield, Quincy, Decatur, Alton and Carbondale.
