Since its inception, SIU Medicine Department of Population Science and Policy has been searching for the WHY:
- WHY do rural communities struggle with health equity?
- WHY do organizations continually expect an urban approach to resonate with rural residents?
- WHY are the amazing innovations in rural communities not shared and showcased?
SIU Medicine Department of Population Science and Policy (PSP) has developed a deep understanding of Illinois’ unique rural communities. Through research and on-the-ground partnerships, PSP has identified challenges, assets, innovations and tribulations faced in rural Illinois – and that research has led to the development of a strategic framework with which we approach rural Illinois’ health needs. Above all, PSP’s health-forward projects with rural communities are based upon a foundation of respect and collaboration.
Now, rural health needs innovation, community collaboration and support more than ever before – and the Department of Population Science and Policy has emerged as a champion for our state’s rural residents. We believe we can enact wide sweeping change to improve rural health – but we can’t do it alone.
The Department of Population Science and Policy hopes to raise $20K in the remaining weeks of 2020. This funding will allow us to to expand to more rural communities in Illinois and create lasting change to improve health. Will you invest in our plan to improve rural health in Illinois?
