Give a gift to help SIU School of Medicine civil service employees continue their education.

Civil Service Council

SIU School of Medicine's Civil Service Council was created to represent all civil service employees. A seated council of civil service employees coordinates the following efforts each year:

 

  • Annual fundraising events to support the Education & Professional Development Program (EPDP).
    1. The EPDP awards educational grants to status civil service employees who are attending an accredited higher education institution.
    2. Fundraising events include:
      • Spring Herb Sale
      • Fall Mums Sale
      • SIU Day of Giving
      • Wear Red for Ed Casual Day
      • Paint Night (take-home and in-person)
      • Donut Sale
      • Basket Raffle
      • Dean’s Holiday Reception 50/50 Raffle
  • Create and suggest innovative benefits that could assist civil service employees, such as:
    1. On-site daycare
    2. Self-defense workshops
    3. Informative panel discussions (example topics: healthy eating, mindfulness, mentoring)
    4. Local business discounts
  • Facilitate special events that improve the quality of life for civil service employees. Currently, this includes:
    1. Jingle Mingle (biennial) 
    2. Dean’s Holiday Reception (biennial)
    3. Movie Night at the Park
    4. Ice Cream Giveaway
    5. Food Trucks on Campus
  • Monthly meetings provide a means by which all civil service employees’ opinions and recommendations on university and school matters may be formally expressed.
  • Promotion of communication and interaction among civil service employees.
  • Encourage awareness of all regulations governing civil service employees.
