Alton Family & Community Medicine Residency

The SIU Department of Family and Community Medicine (FCM) is a group of people, spread across the southwestern half of the State of Illinois, united by a common vision and passion for the health of the people we serve. Faculty members and community teaching physicians in our department have common goals of providing excellent medical care and improving the health status of the people of Illinois through educational and research programs.

This Family Medicine Residency Program is part of the graduate medical education division of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The school was founded to meet the ongoing need for physicians in southern and central Illinois and has had an orientation towards primary care in general and Family Medicine in particular. The department of Family & Community Medicine is committed to the training of caring, competent and efficient family medicine physicians. While the general orientation of the department is towards the training of providers who will practice in southern and central Illinois, we recognize that many of our graduates will practice elsewhere and our training is not restricted to the needs of our local area.

The FCM residency program trains physicians in Alton, Springfield, Quincy, Decatur and Carbondale.
