The Junaia P. Carter, MD 5K was started in 2011 by SIU School of Medicine students to honor a 2010 SIU SOM graduate who passed away from metastatic breast cancer shortly after graduation. Now in its 10th year, SIU School of Medicine, Development & Alumni Relations, in partnership with the American Medical Association Student Representatives, is hosting the event to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. The proceeds from this event will stay local with breast cancer research at the Simmons Cancer Institute.
This professionally timed 5K race through Washington Park is open to the entire community. Walkers are welcome to join. Kids are invited to join the costume contest and Kids Fun Run.
