SIU Medicine's Internal Medicine is dedicated to providing quality patient care to central and southern Illinois. Doctors who specialize in Internal Medicine are known as internists. Our internists have a thorough understanding of various diseases affecting parts of the body, including the heart, skin, hormonal system, blood, kidneys, lungs and joints. Internists play a central role in organizing a patient’s clinical care across a spectrum of specialties and provide services in both hospitals and outpatient settings. SIU Medicine’s position as a leader in academic medicine also allows our medical students, residents and fellows to stay up-to-date on the latest in disease diagnosis and management.
Specialized patient care and education is further provided in our divisions of cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general internal medicine, geriatric research, hematology/oncology, infectious diseases, nephrology, pulmonary medicine/critical care and rheumatology.
